Democrat from Kentucky
We promote fair and honest political discussion from all sides of the ideological spectrum While my own opinions and my contributors tend toward a more progressive view, that's not always the case. I ask people to comment freely and openly to promote fair discourse.

There are things I missed. I encourage people to post some of those things here. I'll have more tomorrow.

One other thing, I will be adding quite a few more links in the coming days. Does anyone have any suggestions for things they might like to see in the links section?

Just an odd bit, that tells me a lot about the 'Amerika' we live in...

Last night I was talking to my 62 year old, staunchly Christian , Conservative, Republican mother. I mentioned that I was quite active online in political blogging and in a number of letter writing campaigns & groups.

She suggested I stop, before I "get in trouble". When ask with whom I would get "in trouble", she said "The Government of course." This wonderful woman has lived thru the excesses of the Cold war and McCarthyism. She comes from a very politically active family. I Guess that's where I get some of my tendencies. That she believes, that we are already in a country where I could disappear for just stating my political views, tells me much about what we have become.

I just turned 41 a few weeks back. I'm married, but have no children. My health is pretty good and I live a nice, lower-middle class lifestyle. I am at peace with myself and have no great fear of death or a hereafter. Not to sound crass, but, with exception of harm to my wife, I've little that they can threaten me with. My wife is much like I, but even more inclined to spit in the eye of the agent who came to our door to arrest me.

The long and short of it, is I'm curious. Have others noted this creeping fear? Have others noted the attitude of fear of reprisal?

I'm not sure whether to be more frightened or angry. To think, we now live in a country where my mother worries that I'll disappear in the night, for having spoken out on political concerns! One wonders how many others are now growing afraid to speak out from fear for themselves or their loved ones.

I cannot ask my mother to place herself in the possible firing line, but for those who have much more to loose...
